Cats are intriguing and amazing creatures. They offer companionship and low maintenance compared to a dog, but it is still your responsibility to understand and care for them. This four week class, taught by local veterinarian Dr. Victoria Dye, will cover a variety of subjects for the cat owner. We’ll start with basic health care. What vaccines are appropriate, vaccine sarcomas, parasite control, and neutering. Next we’ll address nutrition. Obesity, diabetes and kidney disease are common problems in feline medicine today, so we’ll look at what diets are good, how much to feed and how a cats nutritional requirements change with age. Behavior is our next subject. How does the cat think? Learn how to have multiple cats or introduce them to dogs. Basic techniques on nail trims, grooming and brushing teeth are demonstrated. Finally we’ll look at common diseases, household poisons and basic first aid. Handouts are provided as well as reliable websites for further education. |
