| Astronomy (Introduction) |
| |
If you are a star gazer, you’ll love this introduction to astronomy. Students are introduced to the fascinating world of astronomy while learning how to explore the universe. The only prerequisite for this course is an interest and curiosity about our universe. A fieldtrip to McCormick Observatory and an observing session with a telescope are featured with this class. You will never look at the heavens the same way again!
Topics: (1) The starry night sky: what’s out there in the night sky, how do you view the night sky, & how do you navigate the night sky?; (2) Finding stuff in the night sky; (3) Intro to our solar system; (4) Field Trip (weather permitting) McCormick observatory tour and observing; (5) The stars and beyond; and (6) Observing session: telescopes will be provided and class members are encouraged to bring their own observing equipment if they would like assistance in how to use binoculars and telescopes.
