Motorcycle Courses > Basic Rider Course
Beg. Motorcycle, Apr. 16-18 - Full

This course coaches the student who wants to learn fundamental skills to operate a motorcycle properly and safely. It provides entry-level skills for a new rider to begin practicing safe riding strategies, effective turning, braking and obstacle avoidance; as well as understanding the risks involved in motorcycle riding. Successful completion of this course waives the DMV knowledge exam (learner’s permit test) and the DMV road test. The student will receive a Virginia DMV Completion Certificate and an MSF Completion Card. Students will be able to ride a motorcycle for 30 days on the DMV Completion Certificate, and will have one year from date of issue to turn the certificate in at DMV to obtain the “M” endorsement on his/her Virginia Driver’s License. You may turn it in for a motorcycle license if a driver’s license is not desired. This is not good in any other state, only Virginia.

Students under the age of 19 will have to hold the completion certificate for 9 months prior to licensure. They must have completed the 36 hour classroom portion of driver education to take the course and have other requirements before getting licensed. Students under 18 will be required to have written parental permission to take the course.
This is a physically demanding course. Balance and coordination are necessary with use of hands and feet. If you have not ridden a bicycle recently, we suggest you practice. Students unable to maintain balance on the motorcycle may not be permitted to continue in the class. RiderCoaches have the final authority to determine participation in the riding portion of the course.
The BRC includes five hours of classroom instruction and ten hours of range instruction. We furnish the motorcycles and the helmets. Workbooks are given out in class but may be reviewed online in advance if desired at: www.msf-usa.org
In order to receive a refund, you must withdraw at least two weeks prior to the class start date. Refunds will not be made for “no shows” or late arrivals. Students must be on time. $5 fee for each cancellation or class change.
Class # : 5303
