You need to register to attend. To promote safe hunting the basic 10 hour course will be presented, plus additional time for firing and caring for shotguns & rifles. Students should bring hearing and eye protection in addition to their own ammunition, shotgun and/or rifle if they plan on staying after the course is over for supervised shooting instruction. Classes are held outside under a tent. Students (with a parent) are welcome to camp out overnight. The Albemarle County Sheriff's Office will provide lunch both days which will be venison meat with Ike's special seasoning! Class is held at the Liberty Corner Farm in Esmont (not Fulfillment Farm).
Directions: From Charlottesville take Rt. 20 south to Scottsville & take Rt. 6 west. Drive approx. 4 miles and take left on Porters Road. Go less than 2 miles and look for sign 001 HUNT on the left.
Note: All first time hunters (no previous license) and young people (age 12 through 16) are required by state law to pass a certified Hunter Safety Course (ten hours of instruction). The course covers wilderness survival as well as bow hunting, muzzle loading firearms, and modern shotguns and rifles. Those completing the course will receive a certificate, ID card and a patch.
