This course consists of two sessions, both held at the Rivanna Rifle & Pistol Club. The first session (Friday) covers the basics of shotgun shooting. These include the parts and functioning of shotguns, the components of shotgun ammunition, safe firearms handling, shooting position and stance, the basics of shotgun sports such as skeet and trap, as well as firearms care and storage. During the second session (Saturday), students will participate in shooting exercises. Students will become familiarized with local opportunities to continue with this sport. Students 16 to 18 must attend with parent. ***Class Times: Friday 7-10pm & Saturday 9am-1pm.
Attendance at the first session is required to participate in the second session. Students need to bring a 12 or 20 gauge shotgun to both sessions (ammunition provided); however, if you bring another gauge like 16, 28 or 410, you will need to provide your own ammunition (2 boxes/25 shells each).
