Special Offer
Boat Virginia

In 2007, the Virginia General Assembly enacted a law establishing a boating safety education compliance requirement. The requirement applies to all operators of a motorboat with a motor of 10 horsepower or greater or personal watercraft on the public waters of the Commonwealth. Virginia Dept. of Game & Inland Fisheries (VDGIF) offers a course on responsible boating that provides basic boating skills including legal requirements; navigation rules; preparation/trailering; accidents; weather; water sports. Those completing the course will receive a card/certificate. *Students must attend all three nights of the course to receive credit. **Boaters interested in the boating safety education compliance requirement and its application in the Commonwealth of Virginia are urged to visit the website: www.dgif.virginia.gov or call (804) 367-1125.

Note: For those PWC and motorboat operators who have successfully completed a boater safety course in the past and your card/certificate bears the NASBLA approval seal, you are likely to be in compliance with the Virginia boating safety education compliance requirement. Whats New
Color Matters

Why study color theory? An understanding of color will help take the mystery out of your choices. Many seem to base color decisions on nothing more than “it looks right.” Learn the reason why some colors work together while others do not. This color basics class is designed for artists, designers, crafters, quilters, or those who can’t decide what color to paint their walls. By understanding a few basic characteristics of color, we can create more effective color harmony in our art work and life.  Learn basic attributes of color: hue (the color name); value (lightness or darkness); saturation (intensity vs. neutrality) and temperature (warmth vs. coolness). Exercises in class will include basic color charts, mixing color and practical applications. Beginners as well as those needing a review are welcome. Supply list will be e-mailed before 1st class.  *No class Nov. 26th.

Learn how to make color work for decorating, quilting, etc.

Composition and Songwriting

Students will learn a variety of song forms to pop/rock/country, even jazz and classical. Songwriters are encouraged to bring their own material to share and develop. We will listen and critique numerous examples of all song forms.
