Whats New
Shooting to Learn (Photography)

This is a total hands-on, in-the-field class where students will go on planned photo shoots with the instructor to put into practice the theory and mechanics they have learned either in a previous class or from their own studying and experimentation. This is not a beginner class. Each session will have a shooting theme and end with a sit-down sharing session. Students will participate in online discussions between class meetings through a private Flickr group and share selected images from a session shoot, as well as critique each other’s images. During this class, students will do street photography, learn how to "work a subject," look for images "close to home," and experiment with landscape and macro photography. The thread that ties the classes together is to learn better photographic composition and to tell a story with one's images. Students will be encouraged to help each other with questions about mechanics and techniques. In preparation for each session, students will view recommended video clips and read blog postings on the Web. Instructor will contact participants prior to first class to give information about location of first class and what to bring to class.  **No discounts.

Collecting Southern Period Furniture

Of all the regional areas of America, Southern period furniture is among the rarest of all. In this class, several topics will be covered, including identifying Southern pieces by the unique furniture forms found nowhere else, by the unusual secondary woods used routinely in the South, and by construction techniques limited only to Southern cabinetmakers. Because this is a hands-on class, it is limited to ten students. First class will be held at Albemarle High, with the rest being field trips to experience actual Southern furniture. Class presentations will include brief overviews, unlimited opportunities for discussion, and first-hand experiencing of actual Southern furniture. Since there are so many field trips, if you miss a class, please e-mail the instructor at wilpaulsen@aol.com for further information.
